About

I was a hack.

Long hours of practice. Heaps of lessons. A game every week. And I could not work this golf thing out.

I was pathetic. I threw clubs, I got angry, and I generally made an idiot of myself. The game got the better of me for years.

Two things saved me. I'm stubborn, and I have a strong desire to prove people wrong. And I was lucky enough to make one discovery that changed everything.

Golf is no harder to learn than any other skill.

Walking. Talking. Riding a bike. Throwing a ball. You get the idea.

That one realization turned my game around. It also exposed something uncomfortable about the mainstream golf world, which is that most of what you're being told to do isn't working.

Golf is no harder to learn than any other skill.

What happened next

I stopped listening to the experts, and my game got better.

At my peak I played to a plus 3 handicap — one of the lowest in Australia. I did it without playing full time and without daily practice sessions. I practiced and played no more than a typical club golfer, and I held down a full-time job the whole time.

Best of all, I got the thing that only arrives when you can genuinely trust your game: a kind of deep satisfaction that no amount of technical knowledge ever gave me.

Everything I've built since comes out of that. My passion has been to share these principles with as many golfers as possible — and if the ideas help one extra golfer play with more enthusiasm and enjoyment, the effort has been worth it.

Some of what I've done

Along the way.

  • Built a consistent, reliable game by ignoring traditional methods — and played to a plus 3 handicap.
  • Multiple club champion, and captain of the golf team.
  • Helped thousands of golfers around the world improve their game.
  • Taught Aaron Baddeley his "look and shoot" putting technique, and wrote Look & Shoot.
  • Author of UnF*ck Your Golf Swing, plus Golf Brain, Putting and Chipping.
  • Spoke at the International Society of Biomechanics in Sport conference — one of the first non-scientists to do so.
  • Wrote BioSwing — my first book, and the biomechanically optimized swing model behind it. The earliest version of everything I teach now.
  • Designed learning tools that make golf improvement no harder than riding a bike or throwing a ball.
  • Written over 1.5 million words on golf improvement, more than 800 articles, and 13 books on golf, learning and performance.
  • Shot a par round within a few months of taking up the game — then completely lost the plot. That setback is what sent me digging into how people actually learn.
  • Won the last seven holes of an important match to take it one up.

What others say

Two I'm particularly fond of.

Both of these mention BioSwing. That was my first book — the earliest version of the same argument, written years before it became The Golf Lie. The ideas have been sharpening ever since, but the core of it hasn't changed.

“Cameron you are spot on. I am returning to golf after heart surgery and a frozen shoulder. I have been stretching and following your BioSwing advice. Yesterday I took my first full swings and the ball took off. My strength is down and my timing is not quite there, but it was a fabulous feeling to strike the ball in the middle of the club and watch it fly just as I intended.

Your methodology far exceeds any that I have witnessed in 41 years of teaching and coaching golf. Congratulations, and continue your excellent work.”

Kevin O'Neill — Master Golf Teacher, inventor of the Dot Putter

“I can only confirm that you're correct. A bad shoulder from trying to kill that little birdie ball last year took me from 11 to 15.5.

I played less this year, no competitions, and applied the BioSwing principle and training tools. Wow. Pleasure is back, pain is gone, and I'm playing around 10. I am 64 and this is kids' stuff. It is a fine-tuned system and you are a guru. (I think my pro is not fond of you — we now say hello and goodbye.)”

Stefan — Sweden
